Cat Parker

Welcome!

Welcome to the internet dwelling of Cat Parker. I am a theatre director by trade and by heart. My primary concentration these days is as the Artistic Director of Articulate Theatre Company. Other interests include animal rescue (including my own menagerie of one dog and three cats!), better living through better nutrition, and gardening. You can find out more about these topics by clicking on the menu items at the top of the page. And you can find out what’s happening with me by reading the “Latest News” post. Need to get in touch with me? Check out the “Contact” page. Thanks for stopping by!

Director, Producer, Artistic Director

Professional Bio: Cat Parker is the Artistic Director of Articulate Theatre Company, based in New York City. With Articulate, she directed Skin of Our Teeth, Dragon, and several short plays in Articulate’s signature series, Articulating the Arts. She was also responsible for creating and producing the event, Circling Back, which was a night to honor and pay homage to the Circle Rep Company.

Cat also directs freelance and has worked regionally at Dallas Theater Center, Dorset Theatre Festival, and Oklahoma City Rep. In New York, Cat was the Producing Director at T. Schreiber Studio, and has directed at The WorkShop Theater Company, Creative Place NYC, Mid-Town International Theatre Festival, Abingdon Theatre, and UrbanStages. Favorite productions include Picasso at the Lapin Agile (NYIT Award Winner), Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Towards Zero, A Doll’s House, a steampunk-influenced Twelfth Night (NYIT Award Winner), the New York premiere of Sister Cities, (NYIT Award Nominee), and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. Most recent projects include Parts of Parts and Stitches with MT Works Theatre, and Dragon with Articulate Theatre Company. She assisted Jerry Zaks on the Broadway debut of A Bronx Tale, featuring Chazz Palmenteri. She has recently embarked on a project to interview the directors of New York’s Indie theatre world. You can read about it on her blog: DirectorSpeak.

Personal Bio: Born in Japan and raised mostly in England and Germany, Cat has led a very peripatetic lifestyle due to growing up in the Air Force. After high school, she joined the Air Force herself, where she got her first taste of the “dramatic management” world by helping with the local Tops in Blue talent fest and testing security by trying to get on base without an ID (as part of the USAF IG Team). After separating from the service, she went to Hawaii and worked in personnel recruitment (casting) and commercial real estate management (producing), while participating in murder mystery productions on local cruise ships. After a few years, she headed back to the mainland to continue her education and rekindled her passion for theatre by working in the local community theatre, Angelo Community Theatre. Following that path to a season with Colorado Shakespeare Festival provoked a return to university where she achieved her Masters Degree in Theatre. An online mentorship lead her to directing work in Vermont, which brought her into the world of professional theatre in New York City. NYC has yet to release her from it’s clutches, for which she couldn’t be happier. Along with directing, Cat dabbles in growing food in her garden, ‘raising’ her menagerie of cats and dog, learning more and more about nutrition, loving a good man, helping with animal rescue groups, enjoying her friends, and continuing to grow as an artist and human. She declared 2013  her “Year of Yes” which has brought about the birth of one of her dreams: a theatre company, Articulate Theatre Company.
