Animals of my World

Animals have always played a major role in my life. I wish that everyone could, and would, experience the unconditional love that animals can give, and the growth of responsibility and stewardship that being connected with an animal brings into your life. I’m a firm believer that any human life is made better by having animals in it. Here’s some pictures of some of the wonderful animals I’ve known – past and present. Feel free to leave pix of your “fur-babies” in the comments!

JR – JR rules the roost in our current menagerie. Also known as Ichidog, Seamus cu McPup, Jean-Remi LeChein, and various other appellations depending on my mood, JR is part lab, part hound, part –who knows. We got him from NYC Animal Care and Control February 2011, and he was a perfect addition to our family.

The Cats: Cy, Feste, & Notch [and Sox] – In November of 2012, right after Hurricane Sandy and just before the big blizzard, some friends and I caught 4 kittens that were eating out of trashbags on the street. We brought them home, and with considerable help from Infinite Hope Animal Rescue, we nursed them back to health. One, Sox, got adopted and is living the high life in Fort Greene, but the others stayed here and have filled a hole in our lives we didn’t know that we had.

  1. How apropos that an animal lover is named Cat!
We don’t know each other. I am a long time friend of Martin and Rochelle Denton’s and came across your website looking through the Indie Theater Now site. I fell in love with JR … what a beautiful boy. The cats are so precious.

Martin and Rochelle loved my shetland sheepdog, Sheeba, and they allowed me to bring her to their reading of Kirk Wood Bromley’s Midnight Brainwash Revival. She was always quiet in theaters, but that night, she was too involved in what was going on. She picked up the energy of the script and actors and when the play turned ominous, Sheeba starting barking and growling her “I mean business growl” and the audience had the biggest laugh … Martin and Rochelle laughing the most! Sheeba was thanked for her critique of the play with a round of applause! It was such a great night. She was also a rescue, but after a while, I wondered “who rescued who.”

Thanks for putting your animals on your website. And thank you for your dedication to theater. I am a member of the League of Professional Theater Women. Having been involved in NYC theater for over 20 years, I recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay area and love it here. Hopefully, I will find a good theater to be involved with. If you have any animal story to share, I would love to hear them!

    • Hello Sandra,

Thank you so much for your comment. You must think me quite horrible for not replying sooner. The boring truth is that I started a theatre company in 2013 and have not paid any attention to my own website since then. This is the first time I’ve worked on it for a loooong time. Thank you for your comments about my “fur-babies” – they are thoroughly grounding and I love them dearly. Sheeba sounds terrific and very perceptive – maybe you can hire her out as a dramaturge, or rather, a dog-a-turge! I hope that you’ve become firmly ensconced in the SF theatre scene and that you’re having a wonderful life. Thanks again for writing!

      Peace
      Cat
