Readings are a very valuable tool in the growth of a play from the imagination of the playwright to a fully produced show. Directing a reading has it’s own special challenges and rewards. It’s always an experience!
THE ENGLISH CHANNEL – March 2008, with Abingdon Theatre, written by Robert Brustein. The play is about Shakespeare, and focuses on his relationship with Christopher Marlowe, Henry (the Earl of Southampton and Shakespeare’s patron) and Emilia Lanier, the woman believed to be the Dark Lady of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
SAFEKEEPING – December 2007, with Abingdon Theatre, written by Robert Zellars. The tale of a young man desperately trying to keep his world afloat while caring for his younger, wheel-chair bound brother – and how magical boxes help them both make some difficult decisions.
NATIVE STONE – August 2004, with WorkShop Theatre Company and October 2006, with T. Schreiber Studio, written by James Steerman. The Miller family has ranched for over 130 years. However, times are changing, and Arch Miller struggles to keep the legacy from ending.
